In the heart of Columbus, a hidden gem in the world of fashion is making waves with her avant-garde designs. Tracy Powell, the visionary founder of House of Isa, is a Columbus native with a global perspective shaped by her upbringing as an Air Force brat. Her journey from realtor to fashion designer is a testament to her unwavering passion for the art of fashion.
“I’ve always been a lover of fashion. My mother was a fashionista. Fashion was a part of my family’s life, and that was my introduction to fashion,” Tracy Powell shares. Her decision to pursue her passion led her to leave her real estate career behind and enroll in the fashion program at CCAD, where she honed her skills and earned her degree in fashion.
Specializing in avant-garde designs, Tracy’s creations are a blend of high fashion and ready-to-wear, inspired by her love for movies and costumes. “My first love was movies, costumes. You know, I grew up watching movies because of not having English TV. A lot of my style became this strong superhero type of woman,” she explains. Her designs are elusive, edgy, and deceptive to the eye, reflecting her meticulous attention to detail and mechanical approach to design.
Tracy’s creative process is deeply influenced by her love for comics and sci-fi movies, with each piece telling a unique story. “My designs are pretty difficult. They’re pretty edgy and deceptive to the eye. It’s a lot of tech. I’m very mechanical myself,” she elaborates. Her dedication to her craft is evident in her continuous pursuit of knowledge and skills through ongoing education and learning from global fashion hubs like London and Italy.
Despite her Midwest location, Tracy has worked on sets like Manifest and created costumes for celebrities, showcasing her determination and talent in a competitive industry. She credits her success to her unwavering focus and passion for design, emphasizing the importance of staying true to oneself as a designer.
The Color of Summer Weekend is set to be the stage for Tracy’s latest creations, as she debuts her menswear collection alongside womenswear. Embodying a cool California style vibe, her designs promise to bring a unique energy to the fashion show. Tracy’s meticulous preparation process involves everything from pattern-making to fabric selection, ensuring a seamless production that captures her creative vision.
As Tracy gears up for the #FACE614 Runway at the Color Of Summer fashion show, she reflects on the strong bond between designers and models, emphasizing the importance of finding individuals who share her passion for fashion. “I’ve been blessed to work with models who understand my expectations and bring their A-game to the runway,” she says.
For Tracy, the Color of Summer Weekend represents an opportunity to showcase her talent to the Columbus community and beyond. “I feel like I need to let Columbus know that I’m out here,” she expresses, eager to share her unique creations with a wider audience.
In one word, Tracy describes the Color of Summer Weekend as a “beautiful, wonderful gathering,” reflecting the sense of community and celebration that surrounds the event. With her avant-garde designs and passion for storytelling through fashion, Tracy Powell is set to captivate audiences and leave a lasting impression at the upcoming fashion show.
